Reiki for writers block

Are you looking for techniques to battle writer’s block?

Have you ever considered an energy healing treatment as a tool, in your toolbox, for battling writer’s block?

Reiki may be the new tool you need!

What is Reiki?

Rei (pronounced RAY), meaning “Universal Life,” and Ki (pronounced KEY), meaning “life force energy”, is a pleasant and relaxing Japanese form of complementary medicine.  Reiki is a natural and ancient healing art that transmits energy to stimulate and heal the body, mind, and spirit.  Reiki is a pure and positive energy used as a healing modality that can help ease stress and tension.

Reiki is administered by a practitioner “laying on of hands,” which means the practitioner places hands lightly on or over your body so the energy can flow through the practitioner as a channel to and from you. It is this flow of energy that facilitates the unique ability of the body to move energy, unblock emotions and help reduce pain.

A Reiki session is geared to support you in your overall well-being.  Meaning the well-being of your mind, body, and soul.  A Reiki treatment is known to be a very positive experience.

Each of us is a bundle of energy, a vibration, traveling the earth in a vehicle called the body.  Some of us got a Porsche (sleek and sexy) for a body, and others got a Smart Car or a practical Ford Escort.

Reiki helps move and manipulate the energy to invoke the best positive energy-flow state.

What benefits can Reiki provide an Author?

It is not uncommon for an Author to have a block in creativity, stagnant ideas, or the inability to have their fingers flow freely on the keyboard as ideas flood their mind.  As you likely know, publisher deadlines are not so forgiving.  So how do you increase your energy and provoke your mind to have quicker pops of creativity?  A Reiki treatment may help.

Reiki is a simple yet powerful technique for removing blockages and restoring energy flow around the body.  Reiki is a gentle therapy and is excellent for:

  • Unblocking emotions,

  • Stimulating your intuition,

  • Alleviating persistent pain or discomfort,

  • Increasing your energy and vibration levels, and

  • Creating balance and harmony in the body, mind, and spirit.

Reiki helps people see a new light.

To cultivate an internal environment that promotes optimal health, the energy body needs to be flowing and balanced. Reiki stimulates the flow of energy in the body, which may feel like your idea machine and personal energy are spun like a toy spinning top.

How does Reiki work?

Often a Reiki treatment consists of common techniques and hand positions for channeling a person’s energy.  However, each treatment is typically customized to the patient’s needs.  Most energy healers have the incredible ability to channel the patient’s aura, and energy and then can intuitively know how to help. During the Reiki session, the energy healer will find the areas of pain and the areas of blocked energy and apply energy-healing techniques and intentions to instill positivity and relaxation.

Reiki helps spark potentially sluggish, immobile Chakras in the body. By re-igniting any or all of the seven primary Chakras, you can begin to feel re-energized.  For example, you can feel rooted again, feel creative, have more clarity, and have a stronger voice.

The answers for our best self, our next step, and how to conquer our fears come from within.  However, our subconscious mind is often blocked for a variety of reasons:

  • Our brains, our overthinking brains, often try to overpower our subconscious mind

  • Inner child trauma imposes beliefs and emotions that can’t get released

  • Ongoing stress prevents an adequate flow of energy and stress blocks our positive vibrational states

A Reiki session will help you become relaxed and calm and help you invoke your inner intuition. A Reiki treatment will help you tap into your subconscious mind and help you find your inner knowing.  Reiki helps you experience those brief moments of time where you are able to explore inner messages and bodily sensations that are not generated from your brain, from analytical thoughts, or from outer influences.  Reiki will help you potentially feel and see your energy.

Who do I recommend?

Reiki Retreat with Lisa is my favorite place for Reiki healing.

Check out the Reiki Retreat’s website for more information about reiki and keep checking back and potentially participate in one of Reiki Retreat’s upcoming online Workshops.  Lisa from Reiki Retreat also posts informative content on both her Instagram and Facebook platforms.

Maybe before your next writer’s block builds a wall of failed ideas or a creativity crash, you will consider Reiki as a tool to help your mind, body, and soul.

May peace and love be with you!

Author Spotlight: Maggie Mooha

Today, we will meet a gifted author by the name of Maggie Mooha

Author Spotlight: Maggie Mooha

  1. Thank you for joining us. Please tell me a little about yourself.

I just retired after 40 years in the classroom. I know… yikes! I taught music for most of my career and in a variety of places. I’ve lived in England, Tanzania and the Philippines and traveled quite extensively. I think seeing a lot of the world helped me in my writing… being able to see other people’s perspectives.

  1. Could you let us in on what you’re working on now? The book I just finished is called Mr. Darcy and the Suffragette. I set the original Pride and Prejudice story in the Edwardian rather than the Regency period. I had to think of what Elizabeth Bennet might be up to in 1910. She’d be in the Votes for Women movement for sure. It’s kind of a “Pride and Prejudice meets Mr. Selfridge meets Titanic” story.

  1. Which of your stories is your favorite? So far, I like my third book the best, In the Eye of the Beholder, because it’s the first one I’ve written with completely original characters. Of course, since I write historical romance, there are real people from the period in the story such as Florence Nightingale, and the men who served in the Light Brigade.

  2. What’s your inspiration? I think my inspiration in writing the P&P variations is reading some of the work other people have written. I then to veer off quite a bit from the drawing room drama into more of the historical events and social issues of the time. Some people find that a bit disconcerting, but a little dose of reality never hurt anyone, right? I’m a real history buff, and love doing the research for each book. I’ve really learned a lot.

  3. How and when did you begin writing? Actually, I started by writing screenplays. I had a really good mentor, Madeline DiMaggio, who has written a lot of episodes for TV. I would send her my work and she would evaluate it page by page. She taught me how to stay on the path of the storyline. If it doesn’t further the story, get rid of it. That sort of thing was hard for me at the beginning, but I’m better at it now.

  4. What is one of your favorite books by another author? I have two favorite books. The first one is Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, a largely unsung genius of the Harlem Renaissance and Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. The stories are sometime tough to read, especially Lolita, but the writing in both books is magnificent. Hurston’s prose is practically poetry.

  5. Have you considered writing in other genres? Oh, sure. I’ve written a teleplay for The X-Files, and a Star Trek novel - both unproduced/ unpublished. I got an agent for the Star Trek book, but when she brought it to the powers that be, they told her they wouldn’t take anything from an author that they weren’t already publishing. That was discouraging.

  6. What is your writing process? Do you need silence or music? I write best in the morning, and I must have absolute silence. I think the only people who can’t have music playing all the time are musicians. We tend to listen and then get distracted. I don’t even like it at parties. I can’t concentrate on what people are saying.

  7. How long does it usually take you to write a book? The first book, Elizabeth in the New World, took me more than four years. Granted, I was only working on it during summer breaks from school, but I thought and rethought that one. Now, I have been publishing one per year, but hope to shorten that in the future.

  8. Have you ever had Writer’s Block? I’ve been stuck in the middle of writing a book, but I’ve never been without an idea. Some of them were really terrible. Sometimes, the really terrible idea will lead to something that works. I just have to keep writing. I think I take out as much prose as I put in. I go down a lot of blind alleys before the book comes out right.

  9. Do you have pets? I have a dog named Roxy. She’s 13. She lays down on the floor right behind me when I’m writing. That dog is on her own internal schedule. She gets me up to walk her during the day and that has helped me clear out the cobwebs when I’m writing.

  10. What is your favorite part of writing? My favorite part of writing is rewriting. Doing the first draft is hard, hard work. Slogging. Once it’s done, though, I love playing with it. As Gertrude Stein once said, “I love having written.”

Thank you for taking part in my Author Spotlight on my blog.

Take a look at who puts the fire in Fire Lake...

I thought it would be fun today to run through each book in my Fire Lake Series!

Let's start with book 1: Brick

Interview with Brick

ALWAYS EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED

Ahhh, the good life. Goodbye Navy SEALs, hello rehabbing a rundown lake house he inherited. Being a former Lieutenant Commander will come in handy for Brick Matthews. He gets to boss himself around while tearing down a dilapidated shed and re-roofing his new home, among a hundred other things.

First he has to get rid of the smarmy real estate agent who’s been trying to buy the property for years. Sounds easy, until Brick uncovers layers of secrets, including attempted murder.

In the middle of the intrigue is a buttoned-down CEO with amazing blue eyes.

Roman Furrow is so far from the type of man who hits Brick’s radar, he doesn’t see what’s coming until it’s almost too late.

Having never given away his heart before, Brick is damn sure not going to let anyone or anything hurt the man he’s fallen for. He’s been trained for this – he’ll protect him with his life.

Book 2: Fletcher

Interview with Fletcher

BLOOD BROTHERS

Fletcher Daniels has family. The family he chose. His Navy SEAL family.

Those who share his DNA are dead to him, except his brother Kyle.

When Kyle disappears, Fletcher is forced to confront his “blood” family, whose mere presence makes going through Hell Week at BUD/S feel like a walk in the park.

Saving Kyle is fraught with intrigue and betrayal. With his real “brothers” at his back, and the addition of a tough sheriff who’s decided Fletcher is his, they uncover unthinkable crimes.

Elias Cooper thought he’d left military maneuvers behind when he retired from the Marines and became the sheriff of Marshall County. Working with Fletcher and his team brought it all back.

Now, Elias will do everything and anything to keep the man he loves alive, especially when the pain in the ass doesn’t want the help.

Two tough men with hardened hearts come to learn the meaning of community and love.

Book 3: Shaw

Interview in process...

SNEAK ATTACK

A child shouldn't know the games adults play, but since Shaw's parents hadn't shielded him from their "proclivities" his take on love and intimacy was forever skewed.

Fast-forward to his life after being a Navy SEAL, and although he now has the time, Shaw still hasn't found a reason to engage in more than temporary arrangements.

When dangerous events unfold, somehow genuine feelings find their way through the cracks forming in Shaw's heart.

And for a man who believed he'd never have true love in his life, he finds an embarrassment of riches waiting for him with open arms.

I hope you enjoy my interview with Fletcher, it was rather interesting...

Fletcher

Interviewer: Thanks for being with us today.

Fletcher: No problem.

I: I understand you’ve had a stressful couple of months. What do you do to unwind?

F: The heavy bag.

I: You mean boxing?

F: Yes.

I: Okay. Um…, you must be happy to have your brother, Kyle, back?

F: Yes.

I: How’s the Sheriff?

F: Good.

I: You don’t like to talk very much, do you?

F: No.

I: Hmmm. Is there anything you’d like to share with our readers?

F: Ah--.

(A tall blond joins the interview.)

?: Need a little help here, buddy?

I: And who are you?

S: My name’s Shaw, and it’s a pleasure to meet you.

I: Well, aren’t you sweet.

F: I’m out.

(Fletcher stood and made a hasty retreat. The man seemed to hate being the center of attention.)

S: Don’t worry, I’ll give you the lowdown on our hero, Fletch. But first, would you like a drink?

Interview to be continued.
